I've always been interested in sustainable agriculture and renewable resources. So, when I heard about the potential of hemp, I was intrigued. Hemp is a versatile crop that can be used to make a variety of products, including food, fiber, and biofuel. It's also a relatively low-maintenance crop that requires few pesticides or herbicides.

I decided to give hemp farming a try on my small farm in [Location]. I planted my first crop in the spring of 2018, and I've been learning a lot ever since. In Growing Pains, I share my firsthand account of the challenges and rewards of growing hemp.

The Challenges

Growing hemp is not without its challenges. One of the biggest challenges is the legal landscape. Hemp is still classified as a Schedule I drug under federal law, even though it contains only trace amounts of THC, the psychoactive compound found in marijuana.

This legal classification makes it difficult to obtain financing and insurance for hemp farming. It also makes it difficult to transport hemp across state lines. In some states, it's even illegal to grow hemp.

Another challenge of growing hemp is the lack of infrastructure. There are few processors and manufacturers that are equipped to handle hemp. This makes it difficult to get a fair price for your crop.

Despite these challenges, I believe that hemp has the potential to revolutionize many industries. It's a versatile crop that can be used to make a variety of products, and it's a relatively low-maintenance crop that requires few pesticides or herbicides. I'm hopeful that the legal landscape will change in the future, and that hemp farming will become more widespread.

The Rewards

Growing hemp has been a rewarding experience for me. I've learned a lot about sustainable agriculture, and I've been able to produce a crop that has the potential to help people and the planet.
